  1. Tomorrow is a holiday here in the US, and since I've been extremely busy lately I figured I'd make a quick list of some of the great content on some of my favorite blogs, mostly from our very own Mysticgeek.<br/><b>Related Posts:</b><li><a href="http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/the-geek-blog/mondays-lazy-links-roundup-from-the-how-to-geek-blogs-part-2/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link: Monday's Lazy Links Roundup From the How-To Geek Blogs - Part 2">Monday's Lazy Links Roundup From the How-To Geek Blogs - Part 2</a></li><li><a href="http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/the-geek-blog/mondays-lazy-links-roundup-from-the-how-to-geek-blogs/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link: Monday's Lazy Links Roundup From the How-To Geek Blogs">Monday's Lazy Links Roundup From the How-To Geek Blogs</a></li><li><a href="http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/quick-add-links-to-windows-vista-explorer-favorite-links/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link: Quick Add Links to Windows Vista Explorer Favorite Links">Quick Add Links to Windows Vista Explorer Favorite Links</a></li><li><a href="http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/internet/firefox/add-search-forms-to-the-firefox-search-bar/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link: Add Search Forms to the Firefox Search Bar">Add Search Forms to the Firefox Search Bar</a></li><li><a href="http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/blogging/add-social-bookmarking-digg-this-links-to-your-wordpress-blog/" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link: Add Social Bookmarking (Digg This!) 2. For internal projects that require Linux we have started to use Ubuntu Server as our default platform. Every Linux distribution comes with its own peculiarities. Though a great distribution we have struggled with the pre-built Ruby and RubyGems packages that stem from its Debian heritage. In this post I want to outline how you can bypass these issues by compiling Ruby and RubyGems directly from source.

  5. Take advantage of the XML::RSS CPAN package, which is specifically designed to read and parse RSS feeds. You've probably already heard of RSS, the XML-based format which allows Web sites to publish and syndicate the latest content on their site to all interested parties. RSS is a boon to the lazy Webmaster, because (s)he no longer has to manually update his or her Web site with new content.

  6. Most if not all the attention surrounding Windows Vista Service Pack 1 has been around performance, reliability and compatibility, but you probably didn’t know SP1 also makes short strides in terms of Vista’s power efficiency. And by short, I really do mean short because we’re talking about improvements in the magnitude of only a couple percents. That in the context of 5 hours battery life is a mere additional 6 minutes. Having said that, some is better than none.

  10. This article is technical, but it pertains to something I have been working on for the past week and is pretty important: the backing up of data on the network.
